What I did before was, I submitted my site URL to major search engines for indexing. I also created RSS feeds and submitted them to RSS directories for listing. These are a few simple steps you try to promote your website.

i only got like 1 or 2.. i got the one about the SEO stuff..

What you can do is find some other forums that are specific to your product or service and start posting interesting questions, statements and replies in those forums. The make sure you have a signature that sends them to your website. Forums are a great way to get traffic.

Also consider writing 400-600 word articles that back up what you are providing on your website, then submitting these to high ranking article submission sites. You can google all the above terms and will find lots of help out there on how these can be achieved.
