Hey guys, newbie here...
I've been doing beats for a while for fun but I've only recently decided to sell them. My beats are tracked out on my MOTIF keyboard, and I record to ProTools by cueing tracks in and out. Works for now...
I'm not sure how to best set up my beat for leasing or exclusive release. Like many of you, I produce my beats to loop, so:
How long (minutes) should the total beat be? How many times should it loop?
Do you think tracks should have a distinct beginning, middle and end, or that they should loop through full robust without cueing in/out tracks? If you agree with changing it up, should you follow a typical 4-measure verse/chorus song structure?
Should it contain just a snippet of the track or be the actual version the customer will download/receive?
Should I prepare a tracked out version along with the unexclusive version for each final track that I do (in case someone wants it)?
I believe in applying little to no mastering on my tracks. Is that okay, assuming that if someone buys/leases it they will do their own mastering?
I've been looking all over for these answers, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
