Which of these workstations would you prefer using?

Do you think They have great sounds?
I only have experience using a triton extreme workstation.

Sorry, I've not had my hands on a Fantom, but when I was checking out the Motif quite a while ago now, I was very impressed with the sounds.

Actually I paid much more attention to the sounds than to the other capabilities of it as a workstation, because I wasn't planning to stop using Cubase.

Both are great, it is hard to say which is better - they are pretty evenly matched. You can't go far wrong with either of them..

i been exclusive with reason software for about 5 years. the main benefit is that i have the exact sound banks (not wav files) of every keyboard worth mentioning running in reason, including motif and triton. they both have lovely sounds. the motif sounds may be a little more exclusive tho. because more people have the triton.

What's good Rellik, I always find the mixer in Reason to introduce a tinny, plastic sound.. I always found I had better results if I ReWired Reason into Logic or Pro Tools.

I'm wondering if you had noticed the same thing when comparing your sound banks to the original instrument.

I mean, do they sound exactly the same or do they sound a little bit cheaper than the real thing?

I'd love to know where I can get my hands on those sounds - I haven't used Reason for ages but that would definitely get me interested again...

hi, i havent had a problem with thin sounds in reason, the sounds are polythonic and rich to me, and it gives your processor a workout when you start using multiple modules. but i do use the mastering processor in reason to eq, lightly compress, and spatial image the track. and then, like you said, i rewire the track to pro tools or sonar 8 (my favorite), where i bus the track and do a little more eq, etc to blend with vocals. the reason patches i have for the triton and motif sound just like the real thing (to me). the motif sound patch is 7gb!, and the triton is 6gb. that sould give you an idea of how rich the sounds are. i have the patches, maybe we can make arrangements for you to get them.

The actual source PCM data from the workstations themselves is something like 32-64MB depending on which version of the Motif/Triton you're talking about.

I hate to burst bubbles, and the samples may still sound great, but I hate it when people talk as though larger sample libraries are more likely to be better in any way compared with smaller ones. In the past, it's led to some very poor purchase decisions based primarily on library size.

It's hard to say. It also depends what kind of music you make. I've heard the Fantom is good for R&B beats. I have both motif and triton extreme, and they both are great keyboards. Motif has great sounds. Fantom is good for live performances. I'm sure the others are as well. But you couldn't go wrong with either one.
