Music making itself... 10 Months ago Karma: 9
Technology is getting so amazing now that sooner or later music is going to make itself. What I mean by this is computers are just going to randomly generate music, to a point where musicians are going to be redundant. What's what I personally think, what about you?

Take a look at this video and see what technology can do already....bear in mind the advert is so cheezy and pathetic, plus it's made by microsoft, which according to one kid in the video, makes it "pretty easy to use" LOL

LOL

This is a great technology. I don't think musicians won't be much needed just because of this since beautiful music are created artistically, not like this. But it is cool I have to admit. With this, almost everyone can make their own songs at home. I would love my kids to have this. Music makes children good at a lot of things.

That's an interesting program, but personally I don't think musicians will become redundant.

I think that software is much more entertaining to play with than to listen to. That's my 2 cents worth.

This is really cool! It could give a chance to people who really can sing and who are musically inclined but haven't been recognized yet,on the other hand, tendency would be people would take advantage of this wonderful software wherein the essence and true meaning of this thing will be gone! Kudos to the one who developed this thing! nice Job!

The human factor in any sort of art will never be redundant. You will have to teach the computer how to feel, because that is what art is all about. And the imagination is much more complicated and abstract than any software.

Personally, I think listening to music made with that program would not be all that entertaining after a while.

But I guess there is a place for it. It will be interesting to see how it's used.

I agree that it might be redundant after a while, It seems that it would be the same thing over and over again for the background music if the tone of the singing voice is always the same for the person, which it normally is unless they sing in a different octave. In the end would make it the same thing just over and over with a little different beat and words.

Well I believe (maybe not in our lifetime) that commercial music will be randomly generated by a computer and there will be one guy sitting there clicking "Yes" or "No" to whether the song is releasable. Haha I know this sounds very cynical but look how automated making music is now compared to when recording music first started. But I don't think all music will be like this, just commercial, because commercial is all about making money and nothing's cheaper than not having to pay for a producer, engineer, artist, musicians etc...

I agree to a certain extent about the computer created music. I feel that someday maybe soon, we will have the ability to use computers through our minds and at that point we will be able to create a song in the same manner, with the rhythms and sounds being mixed together as one fluid sound.

It's an interesting discussion going back into time as well. I imagine the first wind-up music boxes were a bit of a threat to musicians at the time. I remember reading that the Hammond organ was opposed by the American Federation of Musicians at one time because of its big sound.

Then a couple decades ago drum machines and sequencers threatened some musicians.

I think it would be interesting to experience how "good" a computer generated composition could be.
